Hello and welcome to the website of Scouting in Potters Bar & District. My name is Charles Dace, District Commissioner for Potters Bar, and I would like to introduce to you the many aspects of Scouting available to you within my District.

The District covers not only Potters Bar, but also Little Heath, Northaw, Cuffley and Brookmans Park. Within the District I have 8 Scout groups offering Scouting to young people from the age of 6 through to 14 via the Beaver (6-8 years of age), Cub (8 to 10.5) and Scout (10.5 to 14) section. In addition the District has two Explorer Scout units providing Scouting for 14 to 18 year olds and a newly formed Network Scout unit, which provides a social network for 18 to 25 years olds, but enables them to support Scouting at the many District events.

The Scout movement provides a balanced programme that enables young people to develop physically and mentally and grow with self confidence and self esteem. But Scouting is not just for young people; the movement would not survive without adult support in the form of Beaver, Cub and Scout leaders. Adults provide the section leaders with support in administration and management, at both Group and District level. In addition the District Scout Fellowship allows anyone from 18 onwards to support Scouting at all levels and provides, as the name implies fellowship with other people.

Over the past three years Scouting in the District has increased steadily and the popularity of Scouting continues to grow. Many Groups hold a waiting list for young people under the age of 6, waiting to become a Beaver Scout. If your son or daughter would like to become a Beaver, it is recommended that you place their names on a waiting list as soon as they become 5 years of age.

Whatever your age there will always be a welcome in Scouting for you in Potters Bar and District.
